Printable Daily Check-In Log
Not everyone has a smartphone, and not everyone wants one. A paper check-in log is a simple way to build the same daily habit: at the same time each day, your parent writes down that they are up and about, how they feel, whether they took their medications, and who called. Family members who visit or phone can glance at the sheet and see at once if anything has changed.
Who it is for
It is for older adults who use a landline or a basic phone, for families who share a daily phone call between siblings, and for neighbors or home helpers who stop by. It also works well as a first step before trying an app.
How to use it
- Type the person's name, choose the month and, if you like, a daily check-in time.
- Press "Print the log". Each day of the month gets its own row.
- Keep the sheet by the phone with a pen. Each day, fill in the time, tick how you feel and whether you took your meds, and note who called.
- Print a fresh log at the start of each month and keep the old ones to spot patterns.
A paper log has one big limit: nobody knows a day was missed until someone looks. If your parent can tap one button on a phone, the free TapOkay app does the same job and alerts the family members they chose when a check-in is missed. Read how TapOkay works for families and how to talk to your parents about a safety app.
If several people help, agree on one place for the sheet and one rule: whoever calls or visits writes their name in the last column. Gaps then stand out, and a quiet day is noticed sooner.
