Living Alone Safety Score

Living alone is a choice millions of people make happily, at every age. The risk is not being alone; it is the gap between something going wrong and someone noticing. This free quiz looks at the everyday things that close that gap: who checks on you, who has a key, whether your information is written down, and whether your home is set up to avoid the most common accidents.

Who it is for

Take it for yourself if you live on your own, whether you are 30 or 85. Or take it with a parent on the phone or on your next visit. The questions are plain and there are no wrong answers; it is a way to start a conversation, not a test.

How to use it

  1. Answer all 12 questions with Yes, Partly or No.
  2. Press "See my score" to get a score out of 100.
  3. Read your checklist. It lists only the things you answered Partly or No, with the most important gaps first.
  4. Print the checklist and tick items off over the next few weeks, then take the quiz again.

Your answers stay in your browser and are never sent anywhere. If you would like the full printable checklist by email, you can ask for it at the end. For more detail on each item, read the living alone safety checklist. And if the first question was a No, a daily check-in is the simplest fix: see how TapOkay works for people who live alone.

Most of the fixes cost little or nothing: a spare key with a neighbor, a list on the fridge, a phone charger by the bed. The score is a nudge to do the small things that make the biggest difference.
