Caregiver Burnout Check

Caring for a parent, partner or relative is often done out of love, and quietly. Appointments, prescriptions, worried phone calls and the constant background question of whether they are okay add up. Caregiver burnout rarely arrives all at once; it builds through lost sleep, skipped meals and weeks without a break. This free check takes about two minutes and helps you see how much strain you are under, and where to start easing it.

Who it is for

It is for anyone who looks after someone else regularly: adult children caring for a parent nearby or from a distance, partners caring for a spouse, and friends or neighbors who have become someone’s main support. There are no right or wrong answers, and nothing you choose leaves your device.

How it works

  1. Read nine short statements about sleep, stress, time for yourself, your own health, mood, isolation, worry, work and money, and support from family.
  2. For each one, tap how often it is true for you lately: never, sometimes, often or almost always.
  3. Tell us how many people share the care, including you.
  4. See your strain level (low, moderate or high) and practical ideas for the areas that scored highest.

This is a self-reflection check, not a clinical screening tool or a diagnosis. If you are worried about your health or mood, the best next step is a conversation with your own doctor. Tell them you are a caregiver; it changes the conversation.

Sharing the load

The single biggest factor in caregiver strain is how much rests on one person. Care tends to drift onto whoever lives closest or stepped in first. Our guide to siblings sharing the care of an elderly parent covers how to hold an honest family conversation and split care by role, and the care circle planner turns that into a plan with names against each job. If you care from far away, the long-distance caregiver checklist helps you build a local network.

Much of the strain is simply not knowing whether everything is okay. A shared daily check-in can take some of that weight: with TapOkay, the person you care for taps once a day, and everyone in the family can see it on the family dashboard, so one person is not left carrying the worry alone.
